Experience The Boston Marathon Like Never Before With Aira
In partnership with Boston Disabilities Commissioner Kristen McCosh and the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, Aira will be making the 2018 Boston Marathon the most accessible marathon ever. Using the camera on any smartphone, a BLV person can download the Aira app and use it to connect to a remote set of human eyes. These humans are known as Aira agents and are trained professionals with deep experience communicating with the BLV community. People use Aira in a variety of ways to access information and to assist with navigation, reading menus at restaurants, etc.
Used in Boston at places like Perkins School for the Blind and by the staff at Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Aira's game-changing technology will be available for free use during the Boston Marathon weekend, throughout the entire City of Boston. Use Aira during One Boston Day, as you perform random acts of kindness around the city. Or pick a spot along the marathon route and use it to get a live description of race.
Aira Explorer and current blind Ironman world-record holder Eric Manser will be running using Aira again this year along with his sighted guide, as part of Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired’s Team with a Vision.
